Mankind Pharma has signed an exclusive in-licensing and marketing agreement with China’s Chongqing Chenan Biopharmaceutical Co Ltd. The partnership aims to commercialize two insulin analogues, Insulin Degludec and Insulin Degludec + Aspart Combination, in the Indian market.

NEW DELHI — Mankind Pharma has announced an exclusive in-licensing and marketing agreement with China-based Chongqing Chenan Biopharmaceutical Co Ltd. Under the terms of the partnership, Mankind Pharma will commercialize two key insulin analogues in India: Insulin Degludec and the Insulin Degludec + Aspart Combination.

The latest collaboration is designed to broaden Mankind Pharma’s existing portfolio and strategic focus within diabetes care and advanced injectable therapies. The company noted that this move aligns with its broader corporate strategy of leveraging global innovation through strategic partnerships and in-licensing opportunities.

Speaking on the development, Atish Majumdar, Mankind’s Senior President of Sales and Marketing, stated that China is rapidly emerging as a hub for innovative biopharmaceutical assets. He added that building on existing partnerships for Insulin Aspart and Insulin Degludec, the company remains focused on expanding its in-licensing pipeline originating from China.

The financial terms of the in-licensing agreement and the specific timelines for the commercial rollout of Insulin Degludec and the Insulin Degludec + Aspart Combination in India were not disclosed in the company's statement.

"This in-licensing agreement demonstrates how established domestic pharmaceutical players are strengthening their product pipelines through strategic international partnerships. By securing rights to specialized products like Insulin Degludec from global innovators, companies can efficiently scale their presence in high-demand therapeutic segments such as diabetes care within the Indian market. Such cross-border collaborations represent a practical approach to expanding advanced treatment options for patients while optimizing research and development footprints." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
