Himadri Speciality Chemicals Ltd has announced a growth strategy centered on capacity expansion, margin improvement, and profit acceleration. According to the company's investor presentation for the July-September quarter, the firm plans to invest a total of ₹1,613 crore across key business segments.
The proposed capital expenditure includes ₹1,125 crore allocated for lithium iron phosphate (LFP), ₹248 crore for speciality chemicals, ₹170 crore for super speciality carbon black, and ₹70 crore for carbon nanotubes. These investments will involve a mix of greenfield and brownfield projects, with completion expected by the fourth quarter of the next financial year.
Chairman and CEO Anurag Choudhary stated that the company is working to build the materials backbone for the energy transition economy. The firm is structuring its operations around three core verticals: commodities, speciality chemicals, and new energy materials, while shifting its portfolio toward higher-value products and applications.
As part of its strategic roadmap, Himadri aims to establish a global presence in battery materials, strengthen its position in high-performance speciality carbon black, expand across key end-use segments, and emerge as one of the top three global coal tar pitch suppliers outside China. The company expects this diversification to drive business resilience and sustainable growth in profitability over the next two years.
Alongside capacity additions, the company is focusing on value-added speciality chemicals to improve its product mix. The firm currently holds a nearly 67 percent share of the domestic naphthalene market, a chemical used in dyes, resins, and agrochemical intermediates, alongside its consumer-facing naphthalene balls sold under the 'Durofresh' brand.
Additionally, Himadri has launched anthraquinone—a speciality chemical used in dyes, pigments, and pulping catalysts—which offers opportunities for import substitution and exports. Its sodium naphthalene formaldehyde (SNF) and polycarboxylate ether (PCE) businesses continue to cater to industrial demand and the construction chemicals market. The company has also established what it describes as India's first commercial carbazole plant, targeting applications in pharmaceuticals, electronics, and dye manufacturing.
Company officials noted that the planned investments in LFP and carbon nanotubes are designed to strengthen its footprint in new energy materials, while the expansions in carbon black and speciality chemicals will support existing operations and higher-value product offerings.
"Himadri Speciality Chemicals' planned ₹1,613 crore capital expenditure reflects a clear strategic pivot toward high-value sectors like lithium iron phosphate and new energy materials. By focusing on import substitution and expanding its product mix in speciality chemicals, the company is positioning itself to capture evolving industrial demand. For businesses in the manufacturing and energy transition space, disciplined greenfield and brownfield investments of this scale are essential for long-term margin improvement and global competitiveness." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
