Consumer electronics major Sony India has reported a net profit of ₹186.88 crore for the financial year ended March 31, 2026, marking a 19 percent increase compared to the previous fiscal year. In FY25, the company had posted a profit of ₹157.03 crore.
According to regulatory filings accessed through the business intelligence platform Tofler, the company's revenue from operations grew marginally by 0.85 per cent to ₹7,917.99 crore in FY26, compared to ₹7,851.08 crore in FY25. Total income, which includes other income, increased by 1.32 per cent to reach ₹8,022.73 crore during the year.
India currently stands as Sony's fourth-largest market globally, following the United States, China, and Japan. The company has stated its objective to make India its third-largest market worldwide, which would involve overtaking its home market of Japan.
An analysis of operational expenses indicates tighter cost management during the fiscal year. Sony India's advertising and promotional expenses saw a marginal decline to ₹182.58 crore in FY26, down from ₹183.71 crore in the preceding year. Additionally, royalty paid to its parent company, Sony Corporation, for the use of the trademark and other rights fell by 5.92 per cent to ₹260.26 crore, compared to ₹276.66 crore in FY25.
Total expenses for the company edged up slightly to ₹7,770.15 crore in FY26 from ₹7,704.58 crore in FY25. Historical data indicates that Sony India's revenue peaked at over ₹11,000 crore in FY15, prior to its parent company's exit from the mobile phone and laptop businesses. While revenue has not yet returned to those peak levels, the company has stabilized its revenue streams starting from FY22, establishing a steady trajectory of positive growth.
"Sony India's financial performance for FY26 highlights an important shift towards margin improvement and bottom-line stability over aggressive top-line expansion. By optimizing royalty payouts and controlling promotional spending, the company has successfully grown its profit by 19 percent despite flat revenue growth. For established corporations navigating market shifts, focusing on operational efficiency remains a viable strategy to enhance profitability while working toward long-term regional growth targets." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
