The Tamil Nadu government has officially reconstituted the Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority, naming retired IAS officer K Phanindra Reddy as its new Chairman alongside four other members. The appointments follow a selection committee's recommendations and come after a brief period of supersession.

CHENNAI — The Tamil Nadu government has formally reconstituted the Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TNRERA), appointing retired IAS officer K Phanindra Reddy as the new Chairman of the regulatory body.

According to a Government Order issued on October 21, 2026, the newly appointed Chairman and four members will serve a tenure of five years, or until they attain the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.

Alongside K Phanindra Reddy, the reconstituted authority includes four other members: retired IAS officers Reeta Harish Thakkar and Mythili K Rajendran, retired District Judge S Kirubaharan Mathuram, and retired Engineer-in-Chief KP Sathyamurthy.

The Housing and Urban Development Department issued the formal appointment order based on recommendations made by a selection committee that was specifically constituted to identify and screen candidates for these posts.

These appointments follow a prior administrative phase where the Governor of Tamil Nadu had superseded the existing authority for a period of six months, or until a reconstitution took place, whichever was earlier. During an interim phase, the newly formed TVK government had appointed Reddy along with Ahmed and Thakkar as members for a temporary six-month period, leading up to the permanent reconstitution of the regulatory authority announced in the recent order.

"Regulatory stability and predictable leadership are fundamental for the real estate and infrastructure sectors. The reconstitution of regulatory bodies like TNRERA with experienced administrative and judicial personnel provides much-needed clarity for ongoing projects and market stakeholders. For businesses and entrepreneurs operating in the region, a fully functional and structured regulatory environment helps maintain compliance, builds investor trust, and ensures long-term operational transparency." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
