Nepal Flash Flood Death Toll Nears 1,000 as Search Operations Continue

The death toll from the devastating flash floods and mudslides in Nepal rose to 987 on Tuesday, according to official statements. Security forces have continued to recover more bodies from various parts of the country as search and rescue operations intensify.

Authorities estimate that 3,916 people, which includes 583 foreign nationals, remain unaccounted for. Security personnel, including members of the Nepal Army, are actively working in the affected regions to locate missing individuals and recover victims.

Data released by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) details the geographic distribution of the recovered bodies. Officials reported that 321 bodies were recovered from Chitwan, 216 from Nawalparasi East, 170 from Nawalparasi West, and 95 from Nuwakot.

Additional recoveries include 65 bodies from Gorkha, 55 from Dhading, 38 from Tanahun, and 27 from Rasuwa. In total, the disaster has directly impacted eight districts across the country, as confirmed by the NDRRMA.

Regarding injuries and medical response, the NDRRMA stated that 279 people sustained injuries during the disaster. Of that total, 168 individuals have received treatment and have since been discharged from various hospitals.
