The Nifty 50 opened with a gap-down at 22,678 and hovered around 22,620 with a bearish bias. Information technology stocks faced significant pressure, led by losses in Infosys and Tech Mahindra, while Nifty November futures slipped below the support level of 22,700.

The Nifty 50 opened today’s trading session with a gap-down at 22,678, compared to its previous close of 22,750. The index slipped further following the opening and hovered around the 22,620 mark, reflecting a decline of 0.6 per cent.

Market breadth displayed a clear bearish bias, with the advance-decline ratio standing at 15/35. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) emerged as the top gainer, rising 4.6 per cent, followed by Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, which gained 2.4 per cent.

Conversely, information technology stocks came under heavy selling pressure. Infosys led the losses, falling 4.6 per cent, while Tech Mahindra dropped 3.1 per cent. Major IT firms TCS and HCL Technologies also recorded declines of 2.8 per cent each. Across sectoral indices, Nifty Auto managed a modest gain of 0.6 per cent to top the chart, whereas Nifty IT suffered as the biggest loser with a drop of 3 per cent.

The broader chart structure indicated a bearish trend for both the Nifty 50 and Nifty futures. Nifty November futures began the session lower at 22,690, down from the previous close of 22,844, and subsequently traded at 22,650, marking a 0.9 per cent decrease.

With the contract dropping below the crucial support level of 22,700, bearish momentum appears to have strengthened. Analysts anticipate that November futures could see further downside movement, with immediate support levels identified at 22,540 and 22,480, and a subsequent support level positioned at 22,360.

On the upside, any recovery from current levels will encounter resistance at 22,700 and 22,750. The intraday outlook remains bearish as long as the 22,750 barrier holds. A breakthrough past 22,750 could potentially extend the upswing toward 22,900, though only a decisive breakout above 22,900 would shift the overall outlook to positive.

"Market movements driven by sectoral pressures, such as the recent decline in IT stocks, highlight the importance of disciplined risk management for traders. When key support levels are breached, market participants must carefully evaluate intraday trends and resistance barriers rather than relying on speculative recoveries. Maintaining strict stop-losses during periods of high bearish bias remains essential for capital protection." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
