Domestic markets are likely to open on a negative note, despite positive trends in global markets. The Gift Nifty trading at 22,595 signals a gap down opening of 200 points. Analysts expect the consolidation phase to continue while crude oil prices remain at elevated levels.
Market attention is squarely focused on the US Federal Reserve’s policy outcome, which is scheduled to be announced later tonight. In addition to macro cues, trading sessions will see stock-specific action driven by key corporate results for the September quarter. Companies slated to declare their earnings include HUL, Adani Ports & SEZ, Adani Enterprises, Hyundai Motors India, Vedanta, TVS Motor, and Hero MotoCorp.
Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, noted that Indian equities are likely to remain cautious ahead of the US central bank's decision. Investors are actively tracking global markets and energy prices as WTI crude continues to trade around $100 to $101 a barrel, keeping concerns over sustained cost pressures and the broader economic outlook in focus.
The near-term direction of Indian equities is expected to hinge on the Fed’s policy signals, movements in crude oil prices, and foreign portfolio investor flows. Furthermore, the performance of the rupee remains an important variable, particularly if elevated oil prices intensify pressure on India’s external balances. Volatility may persist as global cues shape market sentiment through the session.
Hariselvan Radhakrishnan, Founder & CEO of HST Wealth, pointed out that the US 10-year Treasury yield remains close to 5%, keeping dollar assets relatively attractive. While the Federal Reserve is widely expected to hold interest rates unchanged, market participants are placing greater emphasis on the central bank's forward guidance. A hawkish signal could lift yields and restrain emerging-market flows, whereas balanced guidance may sustain the overnight improvement in global risk appetite.
Analysts caution that the market may remain range-bound and headline-sensitive. Holding the 22,550 mark alongside stable crude and bond yields could support a measured recovery. However, weak market breadth or renewed strength in either variable could leave intraday gains vulnerable.
According to Vikram Kasat, Chief Business Officer of Advisory and Dealing at PL Capital, easing crude prices, currency stability, and stronger earnings visibility will be crucial factors for achieving a sustained market recovery.
"When macroeconomic factors like the US Federal Reserve's policy stance and elevated crude oil prices converge, market volatility is a natural outcome. For entrepreneurs, investors, and businesses operating in the Indian ecosystem, this cautious phase underscores the importance of strong fundamentals and capital efficiency. While short-term market movements driven by global cues and quarterly earnings will test sentiment, maintaining a long-term strategic focus remains key during periods of macroeconomic transition." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
