US President Donald Trump has stated that he will respect the results of the upcoming midterm elections provided the polls are conducted honestly. He also warned that he could exercise his veto power if necessary, as the November 3 elections approach amidst a closely contested battle for control of Congress and ongoing concerns over voter fraud.
Speaking to reporters before departing for Texas at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump addressed his legislative position, stating, “We’ll figure a way. I have a strong veto. I hope that won’t be the case, but if it is, that’s happened before… I will — if they’re honest elections.” His remarks come as the administration places heightened focus on election integrity ahead of the polls, which will decide control of both chambers of the US Congress and heavily influence the legislative agenda for the remainder of his term.
In connection with election security, Trump previously announced a USD 1 million reward on Truth Social for actionable evidence of voter fraud linked to past elections or the upcoming 2026 midterms. The payout is subject to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for creating the fraud.
The November 3 elections will see all 435 seats in the House of Representatives contested, alongside approximately one-third of Senate seats. These outcomes will shape the balance of political power in Washington and determine the capacity of the administration to advance its policy priorities.
A CBS News poll published on Sunday projects that Democrats could win 229 seats in the House, potentially securing a majority, though Republicans retain a narrow path to maintaining control. The survey, conducted by CBS News and YouGov among 2,355 US adults between October 21 and 23, indicated that inflation, rising prices, and broader economic concerns remain central to voters' decisions. Furthermore, the poll noted that many voters are motivated by opposition to the rival party rather than full confidence in their preferred party's policy agenda.
The survey data also highlighted turnout as a potentially decisive factor in the election. More Democratic voters reported being certain to vote or having already voted early, whereas less committed voters tended to lean Republican.
