NEW DELHI: India's telecom sector recorded a positive growth trajectory in September, with the country adding 6.57 million mobile subscribers during the month. According to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the expansion was largely driven by major private telecom operators.

Among individual operators, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel led the market additions. TRAI data indicates that the two companies together accounted for over 5.3 million of the total 6.57 million mobile subscriber additions recorded during the month.

The latest figures from the regulatory body highlight the continued adoption of mobile services across the country. Detailed subscriber data across various circles and other telecom service providers are typically tracked in TRAI's monthly performance reports to monitor market trends and teledensity across urban and rural regions.

"The addition of over 6.57 million mobile subscribers in a single month highlights the sustained demand for telecom connectivity in India. When two major players like Jio and Airtel capture the vast majority of these additions, it demonstrates how market consolidation continues to shape consumer choices. For businesses operating in the digital and mobile-first ecosystem, this steady expansion of the user base presents a reliable foundation for reaching larger audiences and scaling digital products." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
