Major domestic and international brokerages expect JSW Energy to successfully meet its targeted 3 GW of renewable capacity addition by March. The company has already commissioned 1.4 GW of renewable energy capacity in the first half of FY27 and plans to deploy an additional 1.6 GW during the second half of the financial year.
According to reports, a favourable construction season has aided progress. The company has already secured necessary land, transmission connectivity, and equipment supply required to execute the upcoming 1.6 GW capacity addition this fiscal.
Global investment banking firm Jefferies noted that 96 percent of the operational portfolio is secured under long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). Furthermore, the upcoming capacity is largely tied up with PPAs, providing predictability for EBITDA growth.
Earlier this month, Morgan Stanley indicated that visibility on meeting the renewable capacity targets for FY27 and FY28 serves as a key metric to monitor. The Morgan Stanley note pointed to expected greater contributions from renewables, an expanded hydro footprint, and the Utkal thermal power plant.
JSW Energy maintains a total locked-in generation capacity of 32.4 GW. This comprises 15.1 GW of operational capacity and 14.5 GW under construction across thermal, hydro, and renewable segments, alongside a 2.8 GW pipeline. Additionally, the company's locked-in energy storage capacity stands at 29.6 GWh, featuring 26.4 GWh of pumped hydro storage and 3.2 GWh of battery energy storage. This combination of large generation capacity and storage aims to support the supply of firm, round-the-clock power.
JM Financial has projected that the company will record double-generation growth. This outlook is supported by the turnaround of acquired plants, including the 300 MW Maruti Clean plant acquired effective August 7, 2026.
During FY26, JSW Energy reported a 58 percent year-on-year increase in net power generation, reaching 51.3 billion units compared to 32.4 billion units the previous year, driven by a 2.6 GW capacity addition. In the first quarter of the financial year ending June 30, 2026, net generation stood at 12.87 billion units, marking a marginal year-on-year decrease but a 10 percent increase compared to the quarter ended March 31, 2026.
Renewable energy currently constitutes approximately 61 percent, or 9,189 MW, of JSW Energy's operational portfolio. This includes 3,125 MW of wind, 2,426 MW of solar, 1,857 MW of hybrid, and 1,781 MW of hydro capacity, while the thermal portfolio accounts for 5,958 MW.
"The steady execution of renewable capacity additions alongside long-term Power Purchase Agreements provides strong revenue visibility for large energy firms. Securing transmission connectivity and fuel or storage infrastructure in advance is critical for managing project timelines and ensuring consistent power supply in a growing market." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
