Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has taken a major step toward a public market debut by filing an initial public offering (IPO) registration statement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The developer of the Claude AI chatbot announced on Monday that it intends to list its Class A common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol “ANT”.
The initial filing did not disclose the proposed share price, the total number of shares to be offered, or the company’s valuation. Those details will be determined during a subsequent roadshow involving the company, prospective investors, and its bankers. Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC and Morgan Stanley & Co. LLC have been named as contacts for obtaining copies of the preliminary prospectus once available.
The public filing follows a confidential submission of a draft registration statement to the SEC in June 2026. This move comes at a time of sustained investor interest in artificial intelligence, balanced against intense scrutiny regarding the financial sustainability of the sector due to high capital requirements for computing infrastructure and model development.
Financial details included in the filing illustrate both rapid commercial expansion and the heavy capital expenditures required in the generative AI market. Anthropic reported that its revenue grew 1,368% year over year for the three months ended June 30, 2026. For the first half of 2026, the company generated USD 16.29 billion in revenue, but simultaneously recorded a net loss of USD 80.75 billion during the same period.
While the proposed offering could potentially become one of the largest public offerings in history, Anthropic has not yet specified a fundraising target, proposed valuation, or official listing date. The registration statement has been filed with the SEC but is not yet effective, meaning securities cannot be sold and purchase offers cannot be accepted until the review process concludes.
"Anthropic's IPO filing marks a critical milestone for the artificial intelligence sector, highlighting both massive revenue scaling and the immense capital burn required to build advanced AI infrastructure. While the top-line growth of 1,368% is impressive, the substantial net losses underscore the heavy financial weight of computing and model development. For public market investors, this listing will serve as a major test of how the broader market values high-growth, high-cost AI enterprises moving forward." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
