Apple has unveiled its latest hardware lineup, introducing a new 14-inch MacBook Pro and an updated iMac powered by the company's new M6 chip. The announcement highlights significant improvements in graphics and on-device processing power designed to handle artificial intelligence tasks directly on the hardware.
According to Apple's release details, the 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,999, while the new iMac starts at $1,499. Customers in 35 countries and regions, including the United States, can place pre-orders starting Wednesday, with retail availability scheduled for November 6.
The company stated that the new M6 MacBook Pro delivers up to 30 percent faster graphics performance and up to 25 percent faster AI performance compared to its M5 predecessor. Additionally, Apple reported that the laptop offers up to 24 hours of battery life, marking the longest battery longevity ever recorded in a Mac device.
Meanwhile, the updated iMac features even more pronounced performance claims, with Apple stating it delivers up to five times faster on-device AI performance than the previous M4 model.
These product introductions precede a scheduled Apple event titled 'Pro and tell,' set to take place in Los Angeles on October 28. Reports from Bloomberg News indicate that the upcoming event is anticipated to feature Apple's first touch-screen MacBook Pro model.
"Apple's latest hardware refresh highlights a clear industry shift toward on-device artificial intelligence processing. By embedding performance gains directly into the M6 chip for both the MacBook Pro and iMac, the company is addressing the growing enterprise and consumer demand for local processing power. For the broader tech and hardware ecosystem, this development underscores how hardware manufacturers are rapidly adapting their product roadmaps to support heavier computational workloads locally rather than relying entirely on cloud infrastructure." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
