The Nifty 50 index opened lower on Tuesday, failing to secure follow-through buying during early trading sessions after registering a bounce in the final hours on Monday. The index was trading at 24,150, down 0.27 percent.
Market breadth remained weak, with the advances-to-declines ratio standing at 8:42, reflecting a negative sentiment across the broader market. Analysts noted that the inability to maintain Monday's recovery leaves the index vulnerable to a further decline toward the 24,080 level during the trading day.
Price action near the 24,080 threshold will require close monitoring. A successful bounce from this region could offer some relief and push the index back toward the 24,150 to 24,200 range. Conversely, a decisive break below 24,080 is expected to heighten downside pressure, potentially dragging the index down toward the 24,000 to 23,980 bracket.
In the derivatives segment, Nifty 50 August Futures were trading at 24,157, down 0.22 percent. The contract has faced persistent challenges in achieving a sustained rise above the 24,200 level. Intraday support for the futures contract is currently positioned at 24,120, with indicators suggesting an elevated probability of breaching this support to test 24,050.
For a meaningful recovery, the futures contract requires a decisive break above 24,220, which could open a pathway toward 24,300 and higher levels. Trading strategies for the session suggest short positions at the current level of 24,157, with provisions to add to shorts on a rise to 24,190 and defined stop-loss and exit parameters.
"Market corrections and failure to sustain sudden bounces highlight the underlying volatility that intraday traders and short-term investors must navigate carefully. Technical levels such as immediate support and resistance thresholds serve as crucial risk-management markers during uncertain trading sessions. Business leaders and financial participants should closely evaluate these short-term market movements when assessing capital deployment and liquidity strategies." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
