The small-cap segment of the Indian equity market has seen robust activity over the last few months. Specifically, the Nifty Smallcap 250 index has outperformed the broader benchmark Nifty 50 index. Market observers note potential for the Nifty Smallcap 250 index, currently at 18,496, to extend its rally toward the 24,000 to 24,500 range.
Amidst this market trend, technical analysis of select small-cap equities points toward long-term opportunities. However, experts emphasize that stock selections based on technical charts carry inherent risks, making strict adherence to stop-loss levels mandatory in all cases.
Among the highlighted stocks is CDSL, where monthly chart patterns over the last two years indicate a triangle formation. Resistance levels are identified around ₹1,460 and the ₹1,580–₹1,600 region. Analysts suggest buying CDSL shares at the current price of ₹1,415, with accumulation recommended on dips at ₹1,320. An initial stop-loss is set at ₹980, with potential targets extending up to an exit price of ₹2,780 over the next couple of years, subject to support zones holding.
Gravita India is another stock showing technical setups, characterized by a bounce from long-term trendline support and an inverted head and shoulders pattern on the weekly chart. A confirmed break above the neckline resistance of ₹1,870 could push the share price toward ₹2,450 and potentially ₹3,200 over a two-year time frame. Investors are advised to buy at ₹1,826, accumulate on dips at ₹1,740, maintain an initial stop-loss of ₹1,220, and target an exit at ₹3,160.
For BEML, a triangle pattern active since November 2023, combined with an inverted head and shoulder pattern forming since November 2025, strengthens the bullish case. A break above ₹2,100 is expected to trigger a rally toward ₹2,750 and eventually ₹3,750. Long-term investors are advised to enter at ₹1,985, accumulate at ₹1,760, keep an initial stop-loss at ₹1,310, and target an exit price of ₹3,480.
Finally, Elgi Equipments displays a double bottom formation on the monthly chart since January 2025, supported by the ₹430–₹400 region and the 50 percent Fibonacci retracement level. A rise above the short-term resistance of ₹700 could target ₹800–₹820 initially, with a one-year target of ₹1,100–₹1,200. The stock is currently priced at ₹629, with accumulation suggested at ₹540, an initial stop-loss of ₹370, and an exit target of ₹1,180.
"The outperformance of the Nifty Smallcap 250 index reflects strong market momentum, but technical-based trading requires disciplined risk management. While chart patterns for companies like CDSL, Gravita India, BEML, and Elgi Equipments indicate favorable long-term upside potential, investors must strictly adhere to recommended stop-loss levels to safeguard capital against unexpected market corrections." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
