OIL Green Energy Signs MoUs with Haryana for Waste-to-Clean Energy Projects

OIL Green Energy (OGEL), the renewables arm of exploration and production major Oil India (OIL), has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with four municipalities in Haryana to establish integrated Compressed Biogas (CBG) and Waste-to-Energy projects.

The agreements cover projects proposed across four clusters in the state: Gurugram, Faridabad, Hisar, and Ambala. According to the deployment plan, the processing capacities vary by location. The Faridabad cluster is proposed at 1,600 tonnes per day (TPD), Gurugram at 2,000 TPD, Hisar at 500 TPD, and Ambala at 900 TPD.

Combined, the four facilities are designed to scientifically process a total of 5,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day. Upon completion, the projects are expected to produce 70 to 75 TPD of Compressed Biogas alongside 50 megawatts of green power.

The operational framework relies on an integrated waste processing and resource-recovery approach. Municipal solid waste will undergo scientific pre-processing and segregation. Recyclable materials will be recovered, while the wet and biodegradable fractions will be directed toward CBG production. The non-recyclable dry fraction will be utilized to generate electricity through dedicated Waste-to-Energy facilities.

This structured approach aims to maximize resource recovery, optimize energy recovery from non-recyclable waste, and reduce dependence on landfilling. The initiative supports Haryana's municipal waste management efforts while aligning with national objectives centered on the Waste-to-Wealth framework, circular economy principles, and the broader clean energy transition.

Furthermore, the projects correspond with the Government of India’s GOBARdhan – National Circular Bioenergy Scheme 2026, which promotes scientific waste management and accelerates the conversion of organic waste into CBG and alternative clean energy forms.
