HYDERABAD — The Government of Telangana has submitted Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for 17 railway projects to the Railway Board. The infrastructure push involves an estimated investment of ₹50,870 crore and covers a network of 2,023 kilometers across the state.
The development was disclosed during a review meeting conducted on Monday by Sanjay Jaju, Chief Secretary to the Government of Telangana, alongside railway officials. The submitted proposals encompass the expansion of the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) and the establishment of modern railway hubs located within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Regional Ring Road (RRR) regions to accommodate the rapid growth of Hyderabad.
During the meeting, officials also discussed modalities for proactive land acquisition frameworks earmarked for future bullet train corridors. Additionally, participants reviewed frameworks for laying new railway lines cutting through the designated Future City.
The review further addressed 21 localized bottlenecks affecting the progress of current infrastructure projects. These hurdles include the construction of road underbridges (RUBs) and road overbridges (ROBs), approach road widening, rail line doubling, and augmenting last-mile public transit connectivity to the Cherlapally Railway Station.
To support financing, the Chief Secretary directed state departments to draft comprehensive DPRs aimed at securing and mobilizing central funding under the Government of India’s PM Gati Shakti initiative. State planners have also been instructed to align future project designs directly with this national master plan.
"The massive proposed outlay of ₹50,870 crore for Telangana's railway infrastructure highlights the strategic importance of aligning regional growth with national logistics frameworks like PM Gati Shakti. For businesses, entrepreneurs, and the broader startup ecosystem in regions like Hyderabad, improved multi-modal transit connectivity, modern rail hubs, and streamlined last-mile access significantly reduce supply chain friction and open up new commercial corridors across peripheral micro-markets." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
