MANGALURU — TiE Mangaluru has been selected to host and drive the first K-Combinator initiative in Karnataka, marking the rollout of the programme across the state, according to Shyamprasad Hebbar, President of the TiE-Mangaluru chapter.
Announcing the development during a media address in Mangaluru on Friday, Mr. Hebbar stated that the initiative will focus on supporting startups from the Udupi-Mangaluru and wider coastal Karnataka region. K-Combinator is a structured, industry-led startup acceleration programme designed to identify, nurture, and accelerate high-potential ventures.
According to Rohith Bhat, Founding President of TiE-Mangaluru, the initiative is built upon 'TiE Nurture', TiE Global's decade-strong organised mentoring methodology. The programme plans to select four to six startups per cohort, with three cohorts scheduled every year.
Selected founders will participate in a structured 16-week acceleration journey. The curriculum includes boot camps, masterclasses, more than 15 mentoring sessions, peer reviews, market and industry connects, investor readiness preparation, and demo day opportunities.
The initiative has a total approved grant outlay of ₹9.26 crore over five years for the coastal Karnataka region. The first tranche of ₹1.89 crore has already been released to initiate programme implementation.
Through K-Combinator, founders will gain access to TiE's global mentor network, along with its broader industry, investor, and entrepreneurial ecosystem. This access is intended to help regional ventures secure expert guidance, enter new markets, build scalable local businesses, and scale globally.
Suyog Shetty, Vice President of TiE-Mangaluru, noted that the programme is targeted at startups that have successfully tested their proof of concept or minimum viable product and are entering the initial stages of scaling. Support will focus on achieving product-market fit, customer validation, go-to-market strategies, market access, and investment readiness.
Additionally, two qualifying startups from each cohort will be eligible for a ₹10 lakh performance-linked grant at 0 per cent equity, subject to successful programme completion, applicable criteria, and necessary approvals.
"The launch of the K-Combinator initiative through TiE Mangaluru highlights the growing focus on building robust startup ecosystems beyond major metropolitan hubs. By combining a structured 16-week acceleration curriculum, global mentorship access, and equity-free performance-linked grants of ₹10 lakh, the programme provides early-stage regional founders with essential capital and guidance to achieve product-market fit and scale effectively." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
