Vedanta Oil and Gas Ltd announced a partnership with Beicip-Franlab India Pvt Ltd to accelerate exploration, resource maturation, and production growth in Northeast India.
The integrated seismic and subsurface program covers nine Open Acreage Licensing Programme (OALP) blocks and one Discovered Small Field (DSF) block. This initiative brings exploration, resource evaluation, and development planning together under a single technical framework.
As part of the engagement, Beicip-Franlab will undertake seismic interpretation, geological and reservoir studies, prospect ranking, resource assessment, and field development planning. The priority assets for this work include both new and existing fields, such as Hazarigaon and Rudra in the Northeast.
Jim Johnny Gast, Interim CEO and Whole-Time Director at Vedanta Oil and Gas, stated that the collaboration combines advanced subsurface expertise with integrated technical capabilities to strengthen the exploration portfolio. He noted that the Northeast holds significant untapped hydrocarbon potential and forms a key pillar of the company's growth strategy to increase domestic energy production and contribute to India's energy security.
Amit Singh, Managing Director of Beicip-Franlab India, added that the objective is to transform subsurface potential into tangible development opportunities through integrated evaluations and field development planning. The initiative seeks to deliver a robust pipeline of drill-ready prospects and enhance resource visibility across the portfolio.
According to the company, the program has the potential to unlock up to 300 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe) of additional resources and reserves. It will also support production enhancement opportunities across existing fields in the region.
The Northeast remains a critical focus area for Vedanta Oil & Gas. In February 2025, Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal announced plans to invest ₹50,000 crore in the oil and gas sectors of Assam and Tripura over the next three to four years.
"This technical partnership highlights the critical role of advanced subsurface analytics and integrated planning in maximizing asset value within the oil and gas sector. By aligning technical frameworks across multiple OALP and DSF blocks, Vedanta is taking a structured approach to unlocking the hydrocarbon potential in Northeast India. Such strategic collaborations help optimize resource maturation and support long-term domestic energy production goals." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
