CHENNAI — Commercial vehicle major Ashok Leyland reported a 23 per cent year-on-year growth in its total sales during October, according to a regulatory exchange filing.
The Chennai-based automaker registered total sales, including exports, of 21,888 units during the month. This marks an increase compared to the 17,820 units sold during the corresponding period of the previous year.
The growth was supported by performance in both core segments. Sales in the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle (M&HCV) segment grew 28 per cent, reaching 13,927 units compared to 10,865 units recorded a year ago. Meanwhile, the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment registered a 14 per cent rise, moving from 6,961 units to 7,961 units.
On the domestic front, total sales rose 24 per cent to 20,224 units, up from 16,314 units a year ago. Within the domestic market, the M&HCV segment saw a 32 per cent growth, totaling 12,646 units. Domestic LCV sales increased by 13 per cent, reaching 7,578 units.
"Ashok Leyland's steady double-digit growth in October highlights sustained demand in the commercial vehicle sector, particularly driven by the M&HCV segment. Such consistent sales figures reflect healthy commercial activity and freight movement in the domestic market, which serve as key indicators of broader industrial and economic momentum." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
