Indian stock markets signaled a strong start following a positive opening indicated by Gift Nifty at 23,305. Market sentiment received support from strong September-quarter earnings reported by several index heavyweights and key corporate entities. Additionally, October passenger-vehicle registrations rose 15.1 percent to 4,98,208, while two-wheeler registrations increased 28.7 percent to 23,20,139.
Macroeconomic indicators also remained robust, with October GST collections reaching ₹2.31 lakh crore, marking the second-highest monthly figure on record. Foreign Institutional Investor (FII) activity showed net outflows of approximately ₹45,160 crore in October, though selling moderated significantly in the final week with intermittent buying interest.
On the corporate earnings front, numerous listed companies released their financial performance for the second quarter. Neogen Chemicals reported a 42 percent year-on-year increase in consolidated revenue to ₹296 crore, while profit after tax surged 144 percent to ₹8 crore. Medi Assist Healthcare Services posted a 13 percent growth in operating revenue at ₹478 crore, with profit after tax increasing by 59.5 percent. Major players like Coal India reported a 57 percent year-on-year growth in PAT to ₹65.5 billion, driven by healthy dispatches.
Meanwhile, sector-specific updates saw significant movements. Global beverage giants Carlsberg, Pernod Ricard, and Coca-Cola advanced their India IPO plans, moving toward board-ready preparations. In the renewable energy and infrastructure space, companies like NTPC Green Energy commissioned additional capacity at its Kalasar Solar Project, and Afcons Infrastructure secured EPC orders worth ₹3,469 crore.
External factors continue to influence broader market trends. WTI crude oil staying above $104 a barrel remains a point of concern amid geopolitical tensions and regional energy supply risks. Global market participants are also tracking upcoming events, including the US midterm elections and monetary policy updates from the US Federal Reserve.
"The latest market updates highlight a resilient macroeconomic environment in India, underscored by strong GST collections and steady auto registration growth. While corporate earnings are largely meeting or beating expectations across sectors, global headwinds like elevated crude oil prices and foreign institutional capital flows require investors to maintain a balanced, fundamentally driven approach." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
