A 22-member Australian higher education delegation has concluded a multi-day visit to Pune, aimed at strengthening student mobility and deepening education partnerships between Australia and India. The delegation's interactions with universities and schools in Pune formed part of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission's (Austrade) Higher Education Week 2026.
According to an official release issued on Monday, the engagements centered on understanding the evolving aspirations of Indian students, exploring academic collaborations and student pathways, and reinforcing institutional ties between educational institutions in both countries.
Vik Singh, Trade and Investment Commissioner at Austrade, noted that India remains an important and valued education partner for Australia. "Our engagement in Pune is an opportunity to listen to students and institutions, understand their aspirations and explore how Australian and Indian education institutions can build stronger connections," Singh stated. He added that the initiative aims to present Australia not merely as a study destination, but as a place where students can access world-class education, practical experience, and global career opportunities.
During the visit, the delegation showcased Australia's education offerings across various disciplines and career pathways. Discussions with educational institutions in Pune also focused on potential academic partnerships, student pathways, and curriculum engagement.
Following its engagements in Pune, the delegation is scheduled to participate in the 10th Annual IC3 Conference and Expo at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on Tuesday and Wednesday. Australia continues to be a leading destination for international students, backed by globally recognized universities, quality education, and student experience standards.
