MUMBAI — Central Depository Services (CDSL) has reported a 24 per cent increase in its net profit for the September quarter, touching ₹174 crore compared to ₹140 crore logged during the same period last year. The financial growth was supported by strong demand and increased retail participation in the securities market.
During the quarter under review, the company's revenue increased to ₹394 crore, up from ₹319 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. CDSL’s Assets Under Custody crossed the ₹89 lakh crore mark, while approximately 75 lakh new demat accounts were opened during the quarter. As of the end of the second quarter, the company's total demat account base grew by about 17 per cent year-on-year.
Nehal Vora, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of CDSL, noted that participation in the securities market has continued to demonstrate resilience despite global macroeconomic volatility. He stated that the sustained growth in market participation has driven the depository to further strengthen its operations and value proposition.
As part of its ongoing market initiatives, CDSL continues to act as a Securities Market Partner in SEBI’s Project Jagrook, focusing on promoting informed and responsible investing, and building trusted infrastructure.
In leadership updates, the company announced the appointment of Geetha Gangadharan to its Governing Board as a Non-Independent Director in August. Additionally, Farokh Patel was elevated to Chief Regulatory Officer and Compliance Officer, and Kinjal Shah was appointed as Chief Technology Officer in September.
On the investment front, CDSL made further investments in India International Bullion Holding IFSC to support IT infrastructure development. The company also made a strategic investment in the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), an initiative by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Furthermore, Centrico Insurance Repository, a subsidiary of CDSL, entered into a Software Development Partnership Agreement with Shoveltech Solutions, a firm operating in the health-tech domain.
"The financial performance of CDSL highlights the steady growth of retail participation in the Indian capital markets. Adding 75 lakh demat accounts in a single quarter reflects deep-rooted financialization of savings. For businesses and fintech startups operating in this ecosystem, this structural shift presents significant opportunities to build infrastructure and value-added services that support a rapidly expanding investor base." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
