The central government has successfully generated 11 crore unique 11-digit Farmer IDs under the AgriStack framework, achieving its target five months ahead of schedule. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the IDs will streamline access to bank loans, crop insurance, and government schemes.

The Centre has generated 11 crore unique 11-digit Farmer IDs, also known as Kisan Pehchaan Patra, under the AgriStack framework. The milestone was achieved ahead of the original March 2027 deadline.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced in a video message that the milestone was reached on the night of October 23. These identification numbers are issued as part of the broader Digital Agriculture Mission.

Chouhan noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had initially set the target of completing 11 crore IDs by March 2027. He stated that modernizing the agricultural sector requires the integration of technology to support the vision of a developed nation.

The newly introduced Farmer ID is designed to ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach intended beneficiaries transparently and efficiently. According to the minister, farmers will no longer need to submit extensive paperwork or repeat documentation processes for routine administrative tasks.

The identification number is intended to serve as the primary document for farmers to access institutional bank loans, crop insurance, disaster relief, and channels to sell their agricultural produce.

Chouhan acknowledged the collaborative efforts of central government officials, state governments, Union Territories, and district administrations in reaching the target ahead of schedule.

Addressing the farming community, the minister stated that farmers now possess a dedicated unique identity and encouraged them to utilize technology and timely government support to enhance their farming practices.

"The early completion of the 11 crore Farmer IDs under the AgriStack framework marks a significant step toward digitizing India's agricultural sector. By creating a unified digital identity for farmers, the government is laying the groundwork for greater transparency and efficiency in delivery mechanisms. For the agritech ecosystem, this foundational digital public infrastructure opens up structured opportunities for startups and financial institutions to build targeted credit, insurance, and supply chain solutions for farmers." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
