Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal completed a two-day official visit to Berlin, holding high-level meetings with German government officials and corporate leaders. The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in advanced manufacturing, emerging technologies, and bilateral trade, which stood at $31.03 billion in FY2025-26.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal concluded a two-day official visit to Germany, following a series of high-level meetings in Berlin. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, the visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, advanced manufacturing, research, and emerging technologies.

Goyal's engagements on October 23 included discussions with senior German government officials, corporate leaders, research institutions, and members of the Indian diaspora. The meetings highlighted potential opportunities to deepen economic and industrial ties between India and Germany.

During the visit, the Minister held a bilateral meeting with Levin Holle, Economic and Financial Policy Advisor and G7/G20 Sherpa at the German Federal Chancellery. The Ministry noted that the discussions covered bilateral economic cooperation and ways to further strengthen economic and investment ties between the two nations.

In addition to government meetings, Goyal held separate discussions with prominent business leaders. These included Siemens Healthineers AG CEO Bernd Montag, Bertelsmann Executive Board Member and Bertelsmann Investments CEO Carsten Coesfeld, and Volkswagen AG CFO and Škoda Auto CEO Holger Peters. The talks explored opportunities for expanding business partnerships, investments, and industrial cooperation.

The Minister also participated in a roundtable with leading German industrial research institutions to discuss collaboration in advanced industrial technologies and innovation. Furthermore, members of an accompanying Indian business delegation took part in sectoral roundtables with German industry representatives and associations to explore bilateral business collaboration.

During his stay in Berlin, Goyal interacted with members of the Indian diaspora, addressed the media, and met with Indian science and technology researchers and students based in Germany. He also held a roundtable with heads of select Fraunhofer Institutes to discuss collaboration in microelectronics, power electronics, logistics, smart manufacturing, industrial innovation, and battery technologies. These discussions focused on strengthening research cooperation and industry-academia partnerships.

Official government data indicates that India's bilateral trade with Germany stood at $31.03 billion in FY2025-26. During this period, Indian exports to Germany registered an 8.44 percent year-on-year growth compared to FY2024-25, reflecting stronger export performance and sustained bilateral trade ties.

"The steady growth in bilateral trade, reaching $31.03 billion in FY2025-26 with an 8.44 percent increase in Indian exports, demonstrates the solid foundation of economic ties between India and Germany. High-level engagements focusing on advanced manufacturing, research, and emerging technologies create a favorable environment for cross-border industrial partnerships. For businesses and technology ventures, such institutional alignment opens up avenues for long-term collaboration, particularly in sectors like smart manufacturing, electronics, and automotive industries." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
