Indian carrier IndiGo has announced an investment in Bengaluru-based artificial intelligence startup Sarvam. The transaction was executed through IndiGo Ventures, the airline's venture capital arm, which has previously backed startups in aerospace manufacturing and urban mobility.
The investment forms part of Sarvam's Series B funding round, during which the AI startup raised approximately ₹698 crore from various investors. According to regulatory filings, IndiGo Ventures committed around ₹30 crore to the round. The move builds upon an existing relationship between the two companies, according to a statement issued by the airline.
Neetan Chopra, Chief Digital and Information Officer at IndiGo, stated that artificial intelligence is becoming foundational for the aviation industry. He noted that the partnership provides the airline with access to India-built AI capabilities tailored to the local market.
Pratyush Kumar, Co-founder of Sarvam, remarked that IndiGo's domain depth and operational scale will help identify areas where AI can generate measurable value. He added that the collaboration aims to develop production-ready systems and establish a template for enterprise artificial intelligence deployment in India.
Moving forward, IndiGo and Sarvam plan to develop and evaluate applications targeting customer experience, employee productivity, and internal airline operations. Successful use cases identified through this process have the potential to be expanded across the airline's wider operational network.
