Bank branches across India are scheduled to observe multiple closures throughout September 2026. According to the official calendar issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the holiday schedule varies from state to state based on regional festivals, local observances, and government notifications.
In addition to state-specific holidays, the standard bank closures for September will include the second and fourth Saturdays, alongside all Sundays. Customers planning physical branch visits, cheque submissions, or cash transactions are advised to coordinate their schedules in advance to avoid disruption.
Regional closures are set to take place in specific states. Customers in Rajasthan and Kerala will observe additional closures due to state-specific observances on September 21 and September 26, respectively. Similarly, customers in Sikkim and Haryana will experience regional closures for Indra Jatra and Heroes' Martyrdom Day.
September 26 falls on the fourth Saturday, which is already a designated bank holiday under RBI rules. This makes it a nationwide closure regardless of any regional festivals coinciding on the same day.
Despite the physical branch closures, digital banking infrastructure will remain operational. Services including UPI, net banking, mobile applications, and ATM access will continue to function without interruption on all holidays.
For time-sensitive financial transactions, customers are advised to utilize round-the-clock digital mechanisms such as NEFT, RTGS, IMPS, or UPI to prevent any processing delays during the holiday period.
"The upcoming bank holidays in September 2026 highlight the importance of operational preparedness for businesses and entrepreneurs. While physical bank branches will remain closed on multiple occasions due to regional observances and regular weekends, the continuous availability of digital banking infrastructure like UPI, NEFT, and RTGS ensures that day-to-day business cash flows and time-sensitive financial transactions remain uninterrupted. Business owners should plan their banking requirements well in advance to maintain smooth financial operations." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
