Vedanta Deploys Portable Rigs for Gold and Critical Mineral Exploration in Chhattisgarh

Vedanta Ltd announced on Monday that the company has deployed portable rigs at two of its exploration projects in Chhattisgarh. According to the company's statement, this marks the commissioning of India's first portable rig dedicated to gold and critical mineral exploration.

The rigs have been allocated to two flagship exploration projects in the state, which focus on gold as well as critical minerals such as nickel, chromium, and platinum group elements.

The newly deployed machinery consists of heavy-duty mechanical systems capable of high-speed drilling up to a depth of 1,000 metres. This represents a significant capability upgrade compared to standard rigs that typically operate within a 300 to 400-metre range. Furthermore, the portable design allows the equipment to carry out operations without losing time during inter-location movements.

Vedanta noted that the exploration of critical minerals requires deep-shaft mining capabilities and specialized technical expertise. As the global energy transition accelerates, the company stated that it aims to address the critical mineral deficit by utilizing its integrated smelting infrastructure and advanced geological technology to unlock complex blocks.
