Amazon Secures Long-Term Power Agreements with Swedish Wind Farms to Support Data Center Expansion

STOCKHOLM — Amazon.com Inc. has entered into long-term agreements to buy electricity from four wind farms located in Sweden. The move is designed to support the company's rising power needs as it expands data center capacity in the Nordic nation.

According to the company, the newly secured agreements will add nearly 200 megawatts of electricity. Once fully operational, Amazon's total contracted supply in Sweden will exceed 1 gigawatt. The four wind farms involved in the deals were developed by Eolus AB and OX2 AB, a firm owned by private equity investor EQT AB.

The agreements come as major technology firms and cloud service providers scale up electricity purchases and direct investments in energy capacity. This trend is largely driven by surging demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence services. As part of its broader technology expansion, the e-commerce and cloud giant plans to integrate another 2 million Nvidia graphics processing units into its data center fleet between 2027 and 2028, following an initial deployment of 1 million units slated to begin installation this year.

Amazon stated that its 1 gigawatt of wind energy capacity in Sweden is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of more than 350,000 households. However, the company did not disclose further financial or contractual details regarding the latest transactions.

Records show that Amazon was the largest corporate buyer of fossil-free energy in Sweden in 2025. On a global scale, the corporation has backed more than 700 renewable and fossil-free energy projects, with a total portfolio exceeding 40 gigawatts.

Three of the newly contracted wind farms—Boarp, Dållebo, and Fågelås—are already operational. The fourth and largest facility, Fageråsen, remains under construction. Amazon's existing operations in Sweden include established data centers in Eskilstuna, Katrineholm, and Västerås, with the company confirming that capacity will be added across all three locations.
