Bank of Baroda shares climbed nearly 3% following strong Q2FY27 financial results that surpassed market estimates. The performance was supported by significant treasury gains and improved asset quality metrics, prompting several brokerages to revise their target prices upward.

Bank of Baroda shares climbed 2.85 per cent to ₹245.40 on the NSE by mid-morning on Monday. The movement follows the state-owned lender's release of its second-quarter financial results, which triggered a wave of analyst upgrades and target price revisions.

The stock opened at ₹243 and reached an intraday high of ₹250.89. Over 1.15 crore shares changed hands, representing a traded value of ₹284.72 crore by 11:31 AM. While the sell-side skew remained heavy with 78.5 per cent of pending orders on the sell side against 21.5 per cent buy orders, buying interest pushed the stock above its previous close of ₹238.60.

The financial results released on October 30 showed a Q2FY27 net profit of ₹65.3 billion. This marked a 36 per cent jump year-on-year, beating estimates by 23 per cent. The profit growth was driven largely by treasury gains of approximately ₹31 billion stemming from an NSE stake sale and revaluation. Net interest income rose 9 per cent year-on-year to ₹130.3 billion.

Net interest margins slipped 3 basis points quarter-on-quarter to 2.74 per cent, pressured by softer overseas margins. However, the bank retained its full-year net interest margin guidance of 2.75 to 2.95 per cent. Management also raised its FY27 credit growth guidance to 13 to 15 per cent from the previous 12 to 14 per cent, and deposit growth guidance to 11 to 13 per cent from 10 to 12 per cent.

Asset quality showed improvement, with the gross non-performing asset ratio tightening by 21 basis points to 1.78 per cent. Additionally, the bank created extra prudential provisions of ₹16 billion to strengthen its balance sheet ahead of the transition to expected credit loss provisioning.

The earnings beat prompted several brokerages to revise their outlook. JM Financial upgraded the stock to Buy from Add and raised its target price to ₹280 from ₹270, while lifting FY27 EPS estimates by 16 per cent. HSBC maintained its Buy rating and raised its target to ₹284 from ₹276. Elara Securities reiterated a Buy with a target of ₹310, Axis Direct held its Buy rating at ₹290, and UBS retained Buy while adjusting its target to ₹300 from ₹310. Motilal Oswal remained the exception, maintaining a Neutral rating with a ₹270 target.

Despite the gains recorded during the session, the stock remains down nearly 12 per cent over the past year, trading below its 52-week high of ₹325.50 reached in February 2026.

"Bank of Baroda's strong second-quarter performance highlights the impact of strategic treasury gains and disciplined asset quality management on public sector banking performance. The upward revision in credit and deposit growth guidance reflects positive institutional momentum. However, investors should closely monitor margin pressures and broader market valuations as the banking sector transitions toward expected credit loss provisioning frameworks." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
