Café chain Barista Coffee has crossed a milestone of 555 outlets with the opening of its seventh location in Kolkata's Salt Lake. The new outlet introduces a hybrid format designed to accommodate remote work, meetings, and dining.

Café chain Barista Coffee has expanded its retail footprint by opening its 555th café in Kolkata’s Salt Lake area. This new location marks the brand's seventh outlet in the city.

The company announced the launch in a statement on Wednesday, highlighting the introduction of a hybrid café format. This format combines diverse food and beverage options with physical spaces structured for work, meetings, and collaboration.

According to the company, the outlet is designed to offer an environment for customers seeking an experience beyond a conventional café. The menu features an extensive range of beverages, including standard drinks, protein coffee, matcha, and bubble tea. The food menu includes gourmet sandwiches, pizzas, pasta, rolls, and English breakfast options, catering to consumers looking for quick coffee breaks, casual meals, or spaces for work and socializing.

The hybrid setup specifically targets work-from-home professionals seeking alternative workspaces, as well as groups looking to meet for collaborative sessions or casual conversations. The company noted that this concept reflects the broader evolution of cafés into spaces that integrate food, work, and community.

Commenting on the milestone, Rajat Agrawal, CEO of Barista Coffee, said, "Reaching the milestone of 555 cafés is a proud moment for Barista Coffee and a testament to the trust our customers have placed in us, the dedication of our teams, and the commitment of our partners. Every café represents our promise to deliver memorable coffee experiences, meaningful connections, and warm hospitality."

Agrawal added that as the company continues to expand its presence, it will focus on strengthening the brand, innovating its offerings, and positioning Barista as a preferred destination for coffee consumers across India and international markets. "This milestone is not just a celebration of how far we have come, but also a reflection of our ambition to reach new markets, create more opportunities, and bring people together over great coffee," he stated.

"Reaching the 555-outlet milestone demonstrates the sustained demand for established food and beverage brands in the Indian retail market. Barista's adoption of the hybrid café format highlights a crucial shift in consumer behavior, where physical spaces must now cater to remote workers and collaborative groups alongside traditional diners. For retail businesses, diversifying utility beyond core products is becoming an effective strategy to capture multiple segments of urban consumers and drive continuous foot traffic." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
