JSW Greentech has received its first commercial order for 100 AMPSTAR electric tractor trucks from JSW Cement. The vehicles will be deployed for industrial transport in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, supported by a Battery-as-a-Service arrangement.

MUMBAI — JSW Greentech, the electric commercial vehicle arm of the JSW Group, has secured an order for 100 electric tractor trucks from JSW Cement. This development marks the first commercial sale of vehicles under the company's AMPSTAR brand.

The order comprises 100 AMPSTAR 4x2 55T tractor truck electric prime movers designated for heavy-duty industrial haulage at JSW Cement's site in Vijaynagar. According to Sumit Mittal, CEO of JSW Greentech, the 55T electric tractor truck represents one of the most demanding vehicle architectures in commercial transportation.

Under this deployment, the 4x2, 55-tonne trucks will be utilized to move clinker and slag on a 330-kilometer route between Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh and Vijaynagar in Karnataka. The route is projected to carry an estimated 1,25,000 tonnes of cargo each month.

The deployment is supported by JSW Eco-Mobility acting as the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) partner. JSW Eco-Mobility will supply batteries under a BaaS arrangement and develop a dedicated corridor featuring four battery-swapping stations.

Narinder Kahlon, Director for Finance at JSW Cement, noted that the integrated electric mobility solution aims to reduce dependence on diesel, lower emissions, and advance sustainability objectives while maintaining operational efficiency.

In parallel, the automaker has received certification for its AMPSTAR 4x2 and 6x4 tractor trucks under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules from the Automotive Research Association of India, clearing the path for these models to operate on Indian roads.

JSW Greentech recently entered the domestic commercial mobility segment with the launch of the AMPSTAR brand to market electric buses and trucks. The company unveiled a 55-tonne electric tractor-trailer and an electric bus in September.

The firm has invested ₹2,500 crore to date, establishing a manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The production unit has an annual capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks, and includes an automated truck-cabin line alongside an integrated battery ecosystem.

"The commercial deployment of heavy-duty electric trucks by JSW Greentech demonstrates a practical approach to industrial decarbonization. By integrating Battery-as-a-Service models and establishing dedicated charging infrastructure along designated freight corridors, companies can address range and operational concerns in heavy transport. This venture highlights how large industrial groups are successfully utilizing captive ecosystems to test and scale clean energy solutions in commercial logistics." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
