Footwear major Bata India Ltd has announced its financial results for the second quarter of financial year 2027, reporting a consolidated net profit of ₹18.11 crore. This represents a 30.4 per cent increase compared to the net profit of ₹13.89 crore recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year. The bottom-line growth was supported by a higher average selling price.
Consolidated revenue from operations for the quarter grew by 7.54 per cent to ₹861.78 crore. This top-line growth was achieved despite the festive calendar largely deferring to the third quarter of the fiscal year.
Sanjay S. Rao, Managing Director and CEO of Bata India, noted that the company maintained growth momentum for the fourth consecutive quarter. According to the company, retail operations saw robust like-for-like and average selling price growth, while franchise and institutional distribution (I&D) channels registered double-digit growth.
The company reported a marginal improvement in gross margins and stronger operational performance. Inventory metrics also showed positive movement, with freshness levels reaching 92 per cent and net stock standing 7 per cent lower than the levels recorded on September 30, 2025. Zero Base Merchandising has been expanded to 850 stores, which the company stated has improved the consumer experience and revenue per square foot.
Bata India currently operates over 2,000 stores, including franchise outlets, along with more than 3,800 Key Retail Outlets. The company is actively optimising its distribution network to enhance store productivity and drive customer footfall.
Despite facing higher input costs and wage revisions, the company managed to deliver higher full-price sales and lower markdowns due to prudent sourcing and stock freshness. Looking ahead, Bata India intends to focus on profitable growth through premiumisation, network expansion, sharper assortment, volume growth, consumer engagement, operational excellence, and disciplined capital allocation. With the festive business shifting into Q3, management expects the current growth momentum to be sustained.
"Bata India's Q2 performance demonstrates how established retail enterprises can drive profitability even when seasonal shifts like a deferred festive calendar impact timing. By focusing on inventory freshness, zero-base merchandising, and channel expansion, the company has successfully protected its margins against input cost pressures. This steady emphasis on network optimisation and premiumisation provides a solid blueprint for traditional retail businesses navigating competitive market dynamics." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
