US President Donald Trump acknowledged the results of the recent midterm elections, congratulating the Democrats on their victory and stating that he is willing to work with the opposition.
Speaking in a call with CBS News, Trump offered his message to the opposing party. "Congratulations to the Democrats, and I look forward to working with you for the good of our country," he said.
The midterm elections saw Democrats secure victories in US Senate races across several states—including Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Ohio—where Trump had previously campaigned and urged voters to act as though he was on the ballot.
Addressing the outcome in interviews with Fox News and The New York Times, Trump remarked that voters simply "didn't like the candidates" and stated that he was "absolutely willing to accept those results." He also noted that the "Democrats did a good job. They fought hard. They've been fighting for a long time."
Reflecting on his absence from the ballot, Trump maintained on his Truth Social account that Republicans lost because he was not running, writing, "And if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!" During his call with CBS News, he reiterated a similar sentiment, stating, "I wasn’t on the ballot, and there was nothing that could be done about that. If I was, we would have won.">
Looking ahead to governance with a divided legislature, Trump emphasized his constitutional authority. Pointing out that he holds "total veto power," he expressed confidence in reaching agreements. "I know a lot of Democrats... I’m sure we’ll be able to work things out," he said, adding that he could collaborate with the party on "many things."
On Truth Social, Trump shared an image of a red MAGA-style baseball cap featuring the word "VETO" printed across it. Elaborating on the dynamic with the opposition, he stated, "I think they’re gonna want to work with me. Otherwise I’d just veto everything, and they’re not gonna want that."
"Political shifts and election outcomes directly influence macroeconomic stability, policy continuity, and business sentiment. For enterprises operating in regulated environments, changes in legislative control require close monitoring of potential policy adjustments. Effective leadership often involves finding common ground across political divides to ensure regulatory predictability and sustained economic growth." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
