MUMBAI — Colgate PerioGard has announced that its advanced gum care portfolio, which includes PerioGard Toothpaste, Toothbrush, and Mouthwash, has received the Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP) Seal of Acceptance. This marks the first time a comprehensive gum care regimen in India has earned this distinction, highlighting the brand's focus on clinical innovation and solution-oriented care.
The announcement comes as awareness around oral health continues to grow in the country. According to company leadership, more than half of the Indian population suffers from a gum problem, while only one in ten individuals realize it. Because gum conditions often manifest through multiple subtle signs rather than a single obvious symptom, the problem frequently remains hidden.
Clinical research increasingly connects poor gum health to broader systemic health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes complications, and adverse pregnancy outcomes. The newly recognized Colgate PerioGard system is specifically designed to address five signs of gum disease, helping consumers manage periodontal health proactively.
Prabha Narasimhan, Managing Director of Colgate-Palmolive (India) Limited, stated that healthier gums form the foundation of a healthier mouth, a category that often receives less attention than required. She noted that independent validation reflects the company's mission to elevate oral care standards in India and spark national conversations regarding proactive wellness choices.
Dr. Ashish Jain, Secretary of the Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP), explained that the Seal of Acceptance assists consumers and dental professionals in identifying products that meet rigorous standards of safety and efficacy. The ISP serves as India's premier professional body dedicated to advancing periodontology and implant dentistry through research, education, and public awareness campaigns.
Gunjit Jain, EVP Marketing at Colgate-Palmolive (India) Limited, emphasized that the portfolio provides consumers with an effective suite of solutions backed by dental experts to address hidden gum issues. This development builds upon Colgate's 90-year legacy in India of improving public health outcomes through continuous research and accessible oral care solutions.
"The recognition of Colgate PerioGard by the Indian Society of Periodontology highlights the growing importance of clinical validation and evidence-based product development in the consumer goods sector. In industries where consumer awareness is traditionally low—such as hidden gum health issues—earning credibility through professional bodies builds long-term trust and drives category education. For established market leaders and emerging players alike, aligning product portfolios with rigorous scientific standards is a vital strategy for addressing unmet consumer needs and shaping healthier markets." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
