NEW DELHI: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) stated on Tuesday that several major food business operators have implemented corrective measures following the issuance of regulatory notices. The actions include withdrawing misleading label claims, revising product packaging, and ensuring compliance with consumer safety norms.
According to updates shared by the food regulator on social media, Mondelez India Foods took steps to comply by withdrawing misleading health claims and nutrient comparative claims. The company also removed corresponding misleading advertisements from various e-commerce platforms.
Similarly, nutritional-supplement manufacturer Sapiens Labs has withdrawn all disputed claims and advertisements following regulatory scrutiny.
Amway India, which operates in the dietary supplements and edible products sector, reported the removal of '100 per cent' claims from its product packaging and promotional materials. The company assured the regulator that the sale of old stock has been discontinued and confirmed that revised packaging without these claims has been finalized for rollout over the next couple of months.
Additionally, FSSAI noted that Amway India Enterprises accepted directives to remove the term 'energy drink' from its XS product range. While clarifying that the descriptor was initially used in good faith following an FSSAI advisory issued in March 2024, Amway voluntarily revised its product artwork, website, and promotional collateral to remove the term.
Kerala-based Juza Foods, a manufacturer of baby food powders and blends, has also agreed to remove disputed health claims, including '100 per cent Vegan' and other related statements, according to the regulator.
"Regulatory compliance is a foundational pillar for any business operating in the consumer and food sectors. This development highlights the growing emphasis on transparent labeling and accurate marketing claims by Indian authorities. For businesses, proactive alignment with regulatory standards not only prevents legal friction but also builds long-term consumer trust, which is vital for sustainable market growth." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
