German life sciences company Bayer Science and Innovation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Karnataka government to invest ₹200 crore in a manufacturing facility near Bengaluru. The phased investment over seven years is expected to create approximately 220 jobs.

German multinational Bayer Science and Innovation has committed an investment of ₹200 crore to establish a new manufacturing facility near Bengaluru. The company formalized the agreement by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka government on Friday.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Large and Medium Industries Minister M B Patil. The MoU was officially signed by Industries Department Principal Secretary S Selvakumar and Bayer Chief Financial Officer Vineet Jindal.

According to Minister Patil, the capital will be deployed in phases over the next seven years. The project is projected to generate around 220 employment opportunities.

The investment follows discussions held with senior representatives of Bayer in Amsterdam during Minister Patil's recent visit to the Netherlands, which aimed to attract industrial investments to Karnataka. Bayer, which produces fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides, has expressed intent to advance the project rapidly.

Minister Patil stated that the company plans to hold the groundbreaking ceremony before the Global Investors' Meet scheduled for April next year and aims to start manufacturing activities without delay.

Bayer maintains an established operational footprint in India, where it has operated for 125 years. The company currently employs approximately 11,000 people nationwide. Its existing operations in Karnataka include a Service and Innovation Hub in Bengaluru and a Crop Testing Centre in Chamarajanagar. Across the country, Bayer operates seven manufacturing facilities and three Global Engineering Centres.

"This planned investment by Bayer highlights Karnataka's strong appeal as a preferred hub for large-scale industrial manufacturing and life sciences. Phased capital deployment over seven years demonstrates a long-term commitment to the region, while also creating valuable local employment opportunities. For the broader business ecosystem, continued manufacturing investments by global enterprises reinforce supply chain stability and industrial growth in India." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
