Hindustan Zinc has introduced two new specialised zinc alloys, VedAZ and VedAyush, aimed at the galvanising industry. The launch is designed to address corrosion protection and improve manufacturing efficiency across the infrastructure, automotive, and manufacturing sectors.

Hindustan Zinc has announced the launch of two specialised zinc alloys, VedAZ and VedAyush, tailored for the galvanising industry. The move is part of the company's broader strategy to expand its value-added product portfolio and cater to increasing demand from the infrastructure, automotive, and manufacturing sectors.

According to the company, the newly introduced products are engineered to improve coating consistency, enhance corrosion protection, and increase overall manufacturing efficiency. This development comes at a time when corrosion-related losses in India are estimated to account for roughly 4.3 percent of the country's GDP annually.

VedAZ has been developed as a zinc-aluminium master alloy designed to help manufacturers maintain stable bath chemistry, achieve uniform coating thickness, and secure a better surface finish. Its specific composition aims to reduce dross formation and zinc losses, which in turn supports improved material utilisation and operational efficiency.

Meanwhile, VedAyush is a zinc-aluminium-magnesium alloy engineered specifically to enhance corrosion resistance, coating adhesion, and durability. The alloy is suited for deployment in challenging environments such as coastal areas, high-humidity locations, and industrial settings. Potential applications span across infrastructure projects, automotive components, consumer appliances, and power transmission systems.

Amarendu Prakash, CEO and Whole-time Director of Hindustan Zinc, noted that there is significant scope to grow the company's value-added zinc business across infrastructure, automotive, engineering, and consumer products. He highlighted that customers increasingly require specialised grades tailored to their specific manufacturing processes and performance requirements.

To support these efforts, Hindustan Zinc intends to leverage its integrated operations and alloy manufacturing capabilities to develop customised products and strengthen engagement with downstream customers. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Hindustan Zinc Alloys, the company operates a 30,000-tonne-per-annum zinc alloy melting and casting facility located at Rajpura Dariba in Rajasthan.

The company's existing specialised portfolio already includes zinc die-casting grades HZDA-3 and HZDA-5, which are utilised in automotive, electrical, industrial hardware, and consumer applications, and have both received Bureau of Indian Standards certification. The introduction of VedAZ and VedAyush marks the latest step in Hindustan Zinc's ongoing strategy to increase the overall contribution of value-added products and move up the zinc value chain.

"Hindustan Zinc's launch of VedAZ and VedAyush highlights the importance of moving up the value chain by offering specialised industrial inputs. By addressing specific operational challenges like corrosion and material efficiency, established players can better serve downstream manufacturing and infrastructure sectors. This product expansion strategy demonstrates how industrial enterprises can align their offerings with broader national economic priorities, such as reducing material and corrosion-related losses." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
