Copper futures have recorded a downward trend over the past week, pressured by moving average hurdles. Market analysts note that the near-term price direction depends on how the contract breaks the current trading range.

Copper futures, currently trading at ₹1,368 per kilogram, have displayed a bearish inclination following a rejection from key resistance levels. The November contract faced a strong hurdle at ₹1,408, a point where both the 21-day and 50-day moving averages coincided, triggering a downward movement over the past week.

The recent market downswing extended to a low of ₹1,341.50 on Wednesday before the contract staged a partial recovery to the current ₹1,368 level. Despite bouncing back from support at ₹1,350, the contract continues to trade below the critical threshold of ₹1,380.

Market participants observe that the near-term bias remains bearish as long as prices stay below the ₹1,380 mark, while the ₹1,350 support level has temporarily held off further selling pressure. Consequently, the next significant price swing will likely be determined by a breakout or breakdown from the established ₹1,350 to ₹1,380 range.

In the event of an upward breakout past ₹1,380, the contract could potentially rally toward ₹1,348 and subsequently test ₹1,432. Conversely, a breach of the ₹1,350 support level may drive prices down toward ₹1,325, with further downside potential extending to ₹1,310.

Due to the current lack of clarity regarding directional momentum, market observers suggest that risk-averse traders may prefer to remain on the sidelines. Meanwhile, participants with a higher risk tolerance are evaluating specific entry and exit thresholds within the defined trading range.

"Commodity market movements, such as the recent price action in copper futures, highlight the importance of disciplined risk management during periods of range-bound trading. When technical indicators like moving averages converge to create clear resistance and support zones, business and trade participants must closely monitor these levels rather than acting on speculative sentiment. Observing how prices react to established boundaries helps stakeholders make informed decisions in volatile market environments." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
