The Department of Posts has launched the Dak Sewa and Dak Mitra applications to facilitate doorstep postal services and improve operational efficiency. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that the Dak Sewa app recorded over 10 lakh downloads during its trial phase.

The Department of Posts has officially launched the Dak Sewa app and the Dak Mitra app, aimed at modernising postal services and expanding digital access across the country. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced the launch, noting that the consumer-facing Dak Sewa app allows users to book services such as speed post, parcel booking, and money orders from their homes or offices.

During its trial phase, the Dak Sewa app recorded over 10 lakh downloads. According to the ministry, the platform has already facilitated the booking of 99 lakh parcels. The application supports 23 Indian languages and integrates digital payment options including UPI, internet banking, cards, and online bill payments through SBI ePay for both domestic and international bookings.

Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani acknowledged that India Post has faced challenges in remaining relevant to younger generations who frequently opt for private digital solutions for parcels, insurance, and financial services. However, he emphasised that the organisation retains a wide reach, affordability, and historical trust.

Pemmasani outlined four key areas for the transformation of the Department of Posts: technology upgradation, changes in policy frameworks, shifts in organisational culture, and physical infrastructure development. Alongside the app launches, authorities also inaugurated 14 renovated post offices.

While the Dak Sewa app is designed for consumers, the Dak Mitra app is targeted at India Post employees to improve internal efficiency. Operating across 1.4 lakh branch post offices since the launch of its earlier avatar in May 2025, the Dak Mitra platform has facilitated 2.45 crore domestic speed post and parcel bookings, alongside supporting the delivery of 15.09 crore postal articles. Officials stated that these digital interventions have contributed to Rs 1,102 crore in new premium collections, bringing total premium collections to Rs 5,431 crore.

"The digitisation of India Post through the Dak Sewa and Dak Mitra apps represents a notable shift in public sector logistics and service delivery. By combining traditional nationwide reach with modern digital payment gateways and multi-language support, the Department of Posts is actively addressing the evolving expectations of consumers and businesses. For the broader logistics and enterprise ecosystem, this integration demonstrates how legacy infrastructure can leverage technology to scale operations and improve efficiency." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
