Mercedes-Benz has introduced the G450d in the Indian market, carrying an ex-showroom price tag of ₹2.90 crore. Replacing the G400d, the new model features a 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system.

Mercedes-Benz has expanded its luxury vehicle lineup in India with the introduction of the G450d, priced at ₹2.90 crore (ex-showroom). The vehicle replaces the G400d, which had previously succeeded the G350d in the company's product portfolio.

Unlike several other Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the G-Class cannot be locally manufactured or assembled. A significant portion of the G-Class models are hand-built at an exclusive factory in Graz, Austria. Due to this CBU import status and associated duties, the G450d is priced similarly to the GLS 600 Maybach, despite costing more than twice as much as the GLS 450d.

The G450d is powered by a 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine that produces 362 bhp and 76.4 kg-m of torque. It also incorporates an integrated starter generator as part of a 48V mild-hybrid system, providing an additional 20 bhp and 21 kg-m of torque. This configuration works alongside a 9-speed gearbox.

According to reported driving tests, the vehicle is capable of delivering fuel efficiency in excess of 12 kpl under well-mannered driving conditions, allowing for a range of over 1200 km on a Mumbai-Udaipur round trip. Even under standard driving conditions, the vehicle maintains an efficiency of 9 to 10 kpl.

The interior of the G450d blends signature design elements with contemporary technology. While the cabin features an upright layout with limited rear seat room and comfort, the vehicle offers a commanding driving position, specific acoustic feedback from doors and locks, and a flat windscreen view.

Positioned alongside the G 63 AMG, which is priced at ₹3.80 crore, the G450d offers a different driving focus centered around its diesel powertrain and long-distance cruising capabilities. It cruises comfortably at 120 kph and retains the structural hardware required for off-roading applications.

"The pricing and positioning of the Mercedes-Benz G450d highlight a clear understanding of the ultra-luxury consumer segment in India. Even with high import duties and a substantial price tag of ₹2.90 crore, vehicles built with high craftsmanship and distinct heritage continue to find demand among buyers who value durability, exclusivity, and long-term utility over traditional cost-to-performance rationality." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
