The Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Limited (SMIORE) has expanded into the medical devices and consumables sector. Its wholly-owned subsidiary, Royal Sandur MedTech Private Limited, has leased land and office space at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone in Visakhapatnam to set up a manufacturing unit.

NEW DELHI — The Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Limited (SMIORE), the flagship company of the Royal Sandur Group, has announced its entry into the medical devices and consumables sector as part of its corporate diversification strategy.

As part of this expansion, the company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Royal Sandur MedTech Private Limited, has executed a long-term lease deed for land at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) located in Visakhapatnam. AMTZ is a medical technology park operated as a Government of Andhra Pradesh undertaking, featuring common manufacturing and scientific facilities.

In addition to the land secured for setting up a manufacturing unit, Royal Sandur MedTech Private Limited has also acquired office space at the World Trade Center AMTZ to support ongoing project development.

Bahirji A Ghorpade, Managing Director of SMIORE, stated that the diversification aims to build new growth engines alongside the company's core operations. He noted that the domestic medical devices and consumables sector offers significant opportunities for manufacturing, and that AMTZ provides a platform for capability-building in a capital-efficient manner.

Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder Chief Executive Officer of AMTZ, remarked that the investment reflects growing industry confidence in domestic medical technology manufacturing capabilities and highlights AMTZ's role in supporting indigenous production.

SMIORE is a private sector merchant miner and commodity producer with over seven decades of operational history. Its existing business spans three primary segments: mining of manganese and iron ores, ferroalloys, and coke and energy. Additionally, the company maintains a presence in the specialty steel sector through its material subsidiary, Royal Sandur Metals Private Limited, allowing the group to leverage integrated asset operations.

"Diversification into specialized sectors like medical devices represents a strategic move for established industrial players looking to balance traditional commodity cycles with high-growth domestic manufacturing opportunities. By utilizing specialized infrastructure hubs such as the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone, established enterprises can scale new business verticals efficiently while leveraging existing corporate governance and execution discipline." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
