Sony India reports a healthy demand for premium consumer electronics in Kerala ahead of the Onam festive season. Driven by larger-screen televisions and audio products, the company expects positive momentum to continue through 2026 despite global uncertainties.

The consumer electronics market in Kerala is experiencing healthy demand in premium segments ahead of the Onam festive season. According to Satish Padmanabhan, Director of Sales at Sony India, larger-screen televisions and audio products are emerging as the primary growth drivers for the market.

The television segment received a significant boost from the recently concluded FIFA football season, particularly for larger screen sizes. Sony reported that its 55-inch and above television business grew by approximately 50 percent during the season, while its overall television business recorded a growth of around 20 percent.

The company anticipates that this positive momentum will be sustained through the Onam season. This outlook is supported by festive offers, financing schemes, and a noticeable shift in consumer preference toward premium home entertainment products.

"Consumers are increasingly looking for a more immersive home entertainment experience. Whether it is watching movies, sports or other premium content, the preference is clearly shifting towards larger screens," said Padmanabhan.

Despite external challenges such as price pressures, product availability, and global uncertainties, consumer buying sentiment in Kerala has remained encouraging. The rising interest in larger screens demonstrates a willingness among consumers to invest in a cinematic viewing experience at home.

To cater to the Onam demand, Sony India has introduced several new product lineups spanning television, audio, and digital imaging. The digital imaging portfolio features new additions to the Alpha and ZV camera series, alongside a range of lenses and accessories.

Additionally, the company has rolled out promotional benefits across its product portfolios to capture festive demand. On select BRAVIA televisions, customers can access up to ₹25,000 in instant cash-back, a three-year warranty, and one EMI-free offer.

Looking ahead, Sony India expects the premiumisation trend in Kerala's consumer electronics sector to persist beyond the festive period. Driven by a demand for larger screens, improved picture quality, and connected home entertainment, the region remains a key market for the company's television, audio, digital imaging, and PlayStation gaming operations through the remainder of 2026.

"The focus on premiumisation by consumer electronics brands like Sony India highlights a clear shift in consumer behavior toward value-added, high-end home entertainment products. Capitalizing on regional festive demand with targeted financing schemes and bundled offers is an effective strategy to sustain growth despite broader macroeconomic and global supply pressures." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
