A targeted sales training program implemented across TVS Motor’s motorcycle dealer network has reported sales increases ranging from 5% to 300% across 15 participating dealerships in Rajasthan. The initiative, designed by Bengaluru-based sales-performance consultancy Catalyst Training Services, reached approximately 650 participants through 45 workshops spanning Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
The program addresses a growing challenge within auto dealerships: information overload on both sides of the counter. Modern customers frequently arrive at showrooms having already consumed product videos, reviews, comparisons, and social media content. Meanwhile, salespeople must juggle specifications, competitive information, sales processes, standard operating procedures, CRM practices, and customer-experience requirements.
"The modern sales problem is no longer an information deficit. It is an information-overload problem, on both sides of the counter," said Madhusudhan P, founder of Catalyst Training Services.
To counter this, Catalyst’s research in the commuter-motorcycle segment identified what it terms a “product-value visibility disadvantage.” While products often possess distinct customer-relevant advantages, buyers may fail to notice these differences unless salespeople deliberately mention, demonstrate, and compare them. Instead of loading salespeople with exhaustive product brochure details, the consultancy identified a limited number of customer-relevant competitive differentiators and arranged them around the physical geography of the motorcycle.
Under this methodology, the motorcycle itself functions as a memory map, cueing what needs to be demonstrated next and turning the sales pitch into a set of simple, observable, and repeatable behaviors. Catalyst stated that randomly selected participants typically scored below 25% in demonstration proficiency prior to the intervention. After 30 to 40 minutes of observing, practicing, and repeating the methodology, the same participants typically crossed 80% proficiency.
"Organisations have invested heavily in product knowledge, processes, SOPs and training, leaving the salesperson with hundreds of things to remember and do," Madhusudhan said. "The challenge is identifying the vital few among the important many—the behaviours that disproportionately influence the customer’s decision."
The training initiative also received industry recognition, with Catalyst and TVS Motor jointly winning Silver at the 2026 Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Awards under the Best Sales Training Program for Extended Enterprise category for its Sales Performance programme. The awards are evaluated by a panel of independent industry experts, practitioners, analysts, and executives based on criteria including program design, innovation, functionality, and measurable business results.
"This case highlights a critical operational lesson for traditional businesses and retail networks: reducing cognitive load on the frontline workforce often yields better commercial outcomes than adding more training material. By streamlining the sales pitch and focusing on high-impact, observable behaviors, companies can effectively bridge the gap between product availability and customer perception. Training that translates directly into measurable front-end performance remains a valuable asset for scaling enterprise efficiency." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
