Payments major Visa has launched a three-tier premium card portfolio in India, replacing its single Visa Infinite tier. The move is backed by company data indicating significant growth in the country's affluent population.

Payments technology company Visa has restructured its premium card portfolio in India, replacing its single Visa Infinite tier with a three-level suite comprising Visa Infinite, Visa Infinite Privilege, and Visa Infinite Private. The update is designed to target the country's expanding affluent consumer segment.

Under the new structure, Visa Infinite is repositioned as a scalable framework rather than a single product. The entry-level Visa Infinite tier retains elevated travel and everyday rewards. The mid-tier Visa Infinite Privilege offers broader lifestyle access, while the top-tier Visa Infinite Private is an invitation-only product targeted at ultra-high-net-worth individuals, offering bespoke concierge services and exclusive experiences.

The portfolio redesign is supported by findings from Visa’s VCA India’s Affluent Economy 2025-2026 Whitepaper. According to the data, the number of individuals in India earning over ₹10 lakh annually has grown from 69 lakh to 1.3 crore in recent years. The whitepaper also reported that 7 in 10 affluent consumers actively seek bespoke and exclusive offerings.

Rishi Chhabra, Country Manager for India at Visa, stated that the refreshed product suite reflects the demand among affluent consumers for hyper-personalization and globally relevant privileges. The portfolio is supported by features such as elevated transaction limits, smart authorisation, and cross-border issuance.

Alongside the card tier expansion, Visa is rolling out curated experiential programmes. These include 'Infinite Tastes: Beyond the Menu', a chef-led culinary initiative spanning the Asia Pacific dining scene, and 'Visa Destinations', a travel platform providing handpicked itineraries and exclusive access.

The rollout indicates Visa's strategy to strengthen its standing in India's premium payments sector, particularly as affluence extends beyond major metropolitan areas and consumer preferences shift toward access and curated experiences rather than traditional ownership.

"The expansion of Visa's premium card tier highlights a clear structural shift in the Indian consumer market. With the affluent demographic nearly doubling, financial institutions are moving away from one-size-fits-all products to hyper-segmented offerings. For the broader business and fintech ecosystem, this trend demonstrates that rising household incomes are driving demand for experiential value, bespoke services, and cross-border capabilities rather than standard rewards." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
