Apollo Hospitals Expands Flagship Teynampet Oncology Unit Into Multi-Speciality Facility

CHENNAI — Apollo Hospitals has announced the transition of its flagship oncology unit in Teynampet into a comprehensive multi-speciality hospital. The facility, formerly operating as the Apollo Cancer Centre, has been officially renamed Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Teynampet.

Established in 1993, the Teynampet campus has a 33-year history associated with oncology care. While maintaining its tertiary and quaternary cancer care services, the hospital will now provide full-fledged clinical and surgical interventions across several new disciplines, including Cardiology, Neurology and Neurosciences, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Spine & Orthopaedics, Urology, Critical Care, and Internal Medicine.

The upgraded facility comprises a capacity of 300 beds, which includes 51 critical care beds. Infrastructure supporting the expansion includes five modern operating theatres and one Cath Lab.

The launch event was attended by Tamil Nadu Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. K.G. Arunraj as the chief guest, alongside Dr. Darez Ahamed, IAS, Secretary to the Government, Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Arunraj noted that patients presenting with complex clinical conditions frequently require coordinated, cross-speciality evaluation and care. He added that the Tamil Nadu government continues to strengthen its public and private healthcare ecosystem and supports initiatives that enhance public access to high-end, specialised medical infrastructure.

Key additions to the campus infrastructure include an Advanced Cath Lab and a dedicated 24/7 stroke care unit. The facility has also introduced Tamil Nadu's first Zoom Endoscopy system for high-definition diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal procedures, alongside an advanced bronchoscopy suite and a specialized Sleep Lab. Apollo Hospitals confirmed that its existing specialized oncology services will remain fully operational alongside the new multi-speciality departments.

The transition event was led by key executives from Apollo Hospitals, including Managing Director Suneeta Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson Preetha Reddy, and Director of Group Oncology and International Harshad Reddy.
