Cochin Shipyard Delivers Third ASW Shallow Water Craft ‘Mangrol’ to Indian Navy

Cochin Shipyard Limited has announced the delivery of 'Mangrol', the third of eight indigenously designed and constructed Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC), to the Indian Navy. The formal delivery took place on Friday.

According to the company, the milestone marks progress in India's domestic defence manufacturing capabilities under the 'Aatma Nirbhar Bharat' initiative. The Delivery Protocol was signed by Harikrishnan S, Director (Operations) at Cochin Shipyard, and Commander U Sharan Kumar, Commanding Officer (Designate) of the vessel. The signing ceremony was attended by Jose VJ, Chairman and Managing Director of Cochin Shipyard, along with other senior officials from the Indian Navy and the shipyard.

Named after the historic coastal township of Mangrol in Gujarat’s Surat district, the warship has been designed and built in accordance with DNV classification rules. The vessel's operational profile includes coastal anti-submarine warfare, underwater surveillance, Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, and Low Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO). Additionally, it features advanced mine-laying capabilities.

The vessel is propelled by a Diesel Engine–Waterjet Propulsion system. For its tactical missions, 'Mangrol' is outfitted with lightweight torpedoes, indigenous ASW rockets, and advanced shallow-water sonars, which are intended to help the Indian Navy detect, track, and counter underwater threats in shallow coastal waters.
