Fujifilm Launches Instax Mini Evo Cinema Blending Retro 8mm Design with Hybrid Digital Features

Fujifilm continues to expand its lineup of film-inspired instant imaging devices with the introduction of the Instax Mini Evo Cinema. Designed to evoke the aesthetic of vintage 8mm movie cameras, the hybrid camera features a rangefinder-inspired look complete with an all-black finish, textured grip, tactile control dials, and a mechanical-style print lever.

Weighing 270 grams, the camera is slightly heavier than a smartphone but remains portable, aided by an optional grip attachment. It is equipped with a 1.54-inch TFT colour LCD screen boasting approximately 1,70,000 dots, which is used for framing shots and navigating creative settings. A supplied viewfinder attachment is also included to assist with outdoor framing in bright conditions.

Under the hood, the Instax Mini Evo Cinema houses a 5MP 1/5-inch CMOS sensor paired with a 28mm-equivalent f/2.0 lens. The device supports an ISO range of 100 to 1,600, automatic shutter speeds from 1/4 second to 1/8,000 second, and ±2EV exposure compensation. It also features face recognition autofocus and a 10cm minimum focusing distance for close-up photography. Images are captured at a maximum resolution of 1,920 × 2,560 pixels, suitable for physical Instax Mini prints and social media sharing.

For video recording, the camera offers a standard mode at 600 × 800 pixels and a high-quality mode at 1,080 × 1,440 pixels. However, video clip length is strictly limited to 15 seconds per file, catering directly to short-form content formats. The camera includes physical controls such as a switch to toggle between stills and video, and an Era Mode selector to apply filters inspired by decades ranging from the 1930s to the 2020s.

The companion Mini Evo app allows users to print photos directly from a smartphone, apply basic edits, use the phone as a remote shutter release, and transfer images digitally. Physical prints are produced on Fujifilm Instax Mini instant film, taking roughly 16 to 20 seconds to eject and about 90 seconds to fully develop.

In terms of power and performance, the camera features a slow boot-up time and an average battery life that drops by about 35 percent after a day of standby use, 20 to 30 photos, and a few short video clips. A full battery recharge takes between two and three hours without fast-charging support.
