Panaji: Goa welcomed 61.38 lakh visitors in the first seven months of 2026, registering steady overall growth and pointing toward a strong winter tourism outlook. According to data released by the state Tourism Department on Saturday, the influx reflects continued demand despite challenging global travel and economic conditions.
State Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte noted that the growth during the traditional monsoon off-season demonstrates changing travel preferences. Visitors are increasingly looking beyond conventional beach holidays toward culture, cuisine, heritage, wellness, nature, and community-based experiences.
"We are working to expand our presence across established and emerging markets, while building products that can give travellers more reasons to visit Goa across the year," Khaunte stated, adding that the figures affirm Goa's position on the global tourism map.
International market prospects are further supported by forward bookings from major operators. Nahush Bargi, Assistant Vice President of Le Passage to India (TUI Group), stated that TUI charter arrivals will begin in November with four weekly flights from the UK—two each from Manchester and Gatwick. Current bookings stand at 15,300 passengers, marking a 7 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The group also anticipates an incentive group visit from Germany and plans to promote curated local sightseeing tours.
In addition, Concord Exotic Voyages projects bringing more than 45,000 international tourists to Goa during the 2026–27 season. Sheikh Ismail, Senior Vice President of Concord Exotic Voyages, noted an increase in winter bookings from Russia and Kazakhstan, alongside momentum in emerging markets including Belarus, Armenia, Moldova, and Kyrgyzstan. Ismail added that longer visitor stays of 10 to 15 nights contribute greater economic value per traveler, with potential for additional charter flights if demand persists.
Hospitality providers have observed similar growth in domestic and regional segments. Ranjit Phillipose, Senior Vice President of Operations for Goa at The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), reported a strong first quarter with occupancy levels around 80 percent and year-on-year growth of about 18 percent, reinforcing the shift toward Goa functioning as a year-round destination.
"The steady rise in visitor arrivals and positive forward bookings for winter charters highlight Goa's successful transition into a year-round experiential destination. For businesses operating in hospitality, travel, and local services, this shift presents consistent revenue opportunities beyond the traditional peak monsoon months. Entrepreneurs in the tourism and experiential sectors should look closely at catering to the growing demand for culture, wellness, and heritage-based offerings to capture higher economic value from longer tourist stays." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
