Groww Asset Management has announced the completion of State Street Investment Management's strategic investment in its asset management business after securing all required regulatory approvals. The transaction, initially announced in January 2026, is valued at approximately ₹580 crore.
Under the terms of the completed transaction, State Street holds a 4.85 percent voting interest and a 23 percent economic interest in Groww AMC. The partnership is designed to strengthen Groww AMC's capabilities across exchange-traded funds (ETFs), indexing, and systematic investing, while aiding product development, distribution, and access to global markets.
The closure of the deal coincides with a period of growth for passive investing in India. According to data cited by Groww, passive funds' assets under management reached ₹14.74 lakh crore as of April 2026, with ETFs accounting for ₹11.43 lakh crore of that total.
Groww AMC has been expanding its product offerings beyond active mutual funds to include ETFs and passive products that give investors exposure to specific sectors, themes, and strategies. Additionally, the company intends to develop a GIFT City platform to provide Indian investors with access to international markets and global investment opportunities.
For State Street, the investment expands its footprint in India's growing asset management sector. When the initial agreement was announced, the firm stated that the partnership would reinforce its presence in the region and allow it to deliver India-focused investment strategies to global clients.
"Having State Street Investment Management as an investor and partner brings valuable global experience and perspectives that can help us strengthen our capabilities and build for the long term," said Harsh Jain, Co-founder of Groww.
The agreement merges State Street's international investment expertise with Groww's digital distribution platform, with both entities aiming to develop tailored products and solutions for a broader demographic of Indian investors.
"The completion of this ₹580-crore strategic investment marks a significant milestone for Groww AMC as it scales its operations in India's expanding passive investment market. By bringing in a global partner like State Street, Groww gains deep expertise in indexing and ETFs while simultaneously creating pathways for international market access through GIFT City. This partnership demonstrates how digital-first Indian platforms are collaborating with established global financial institutions to diversify product offerings and cater to a maturing domestic investor base." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
