Shares of HDFC Bank were in focus during Wednesday's trading session, declining 1.38 per cent to trade at ₹702 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) at 10.42 am. During the session, the stock moved between a low of ₹700 and a high of ₹705.65, compared to its previous close of ₹711.90. In the preceding trading session, the stock had touched a 52-week low of ₹698.50.
Market activity for the banking major remained high, with a traded volume of 152.15 lakh shares and a traded value of ₹1,068.62 crore. The total market capitalisation of the bank stood at ₹10.82 lakh crore, accompanied by an adjusted P/E ratio of 13.69. Additionally, market reports indicated that 24.6 lakh shares changed hands in a block deal.
The stock movement coincided with multiple regulatory and corporate disclosures made by the lender. In a stock exchange filing on Tuesday, HDFC Bank formally announced that it will exercise the call option to redeem ₹739 crore of Additional Tier 1 (AT1) bonds on September 30.
Separately, in another stock exchange filing, the bank addressed an ESG assessment report. HDFC Bank stated that SES ESG Research Private Limited assigned an ESG rating of 74.4 to the bank on August 30, 2026, which was communicated to the institution on August 31, 2026. However, the bank clarified that it had not formally engaged SES ESG Research Private Limited for the generation of any such rating or report. According to the bank, the rating was prepared independently using information available in the public domain.
The session also saw broader sector developments mentioned in market updates, including ICICI Bank mobilising $17.88 billion under the Reserve Bank of India’s Foreign Currency Non-Resident (FCNR) deposit scheme.
"Corporate disclosures regarding bond redemptions and independent ESG ratings often influence short-term market sentiment, as seen with HDFC Bank's recent stock movement. Exercising call options on AT1 bonds is a standard capital management decision for large financial institutions. Meanwhile, independent ESG evaluations highlight the growing importance of public data transparency for listed entities. Investors typically monitor these capital and governance updates closely to evaluate long-term financial health and compliance standards." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
